The
Airline Academy program is a fully integrated program of
ground school and flight training.
The Academy’s program ensures that:
• Safety and inculcating a safety culture is central
to all activities undertaken by the Academy.
• Every cadet is allocated
to an individual instructor as well as
a support instructor. A mentoring program is also available
for every cadet to ensure that the cadet is offered the
highest level of support while undertaking flying training.
• Ground school is integrated with
the flying program for all phases of the course. All Ground
School lectures are delivered by specialist and highly experienced
Ground Instructors with extensive experience in airline
operations. The Academy is particularly successful in achieving
excellent results for both the Commercial theory exams and
the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) exams.
• The training program incorporates regular formal
progress checks which are carried out in accordance
with an airline check flight format. At the conclusion of the
check flight the student is given a comprehensive report on
their performance.
• There is an emphasis on maintaining a high
standard of general handling skills including emergency
maneuver, or upset training, and recovery training, throughout
the training program.
• Sixth Generation Crew Resource
Management (Threat and Error Management) are
integrated within the CPL training syllabus.
• Regular testing is undertaken throughout the course
by external CASA Approved Test Officers
(ATO) to validate standards and progress.
• A high level of personal discipline
is demanded of all cadets. The cadets wear Academy uniforms
and emphasis is placed on developing deportment, self-discipline
and leadership qualities.
The Academy course is only offered on a full time basis,
with three scheduled intakes per year commencing in January,
June and September. Each course runs for 50 weeks and is
Austudy approved.
On graduating from the course cadets will receive a Commercial
Pilot Licence and Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating,
and a Diploma of Aviation
(Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating).
On graduation cadets may elect to complete the additional
Airline Pilot Transport Licence theory module. On graduation
from the ATPL module, which requires an additional 12 weeks
of ground school, the cadet will receive an Advanced
Diploma in Aviation (Airline Transport
Pilot Licence).
